Why am I Such a Misfit?

I find that spirit week sometimes inspires some great, and odd nail art. Today was based on the Island of Misfit Toys, and the criteria was to just be mismatched. I took this quite to heart, and my dad this morning (not knowing it was spirit week) thought I had gone off my rocker!

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Pure Ice Platinum Basecoat
NYC Sidewalkers
Essie We're in it Together
Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac
Julep Clara
Julep Coco
Revlon Infamous
Stripe Rite Green, Pink, and Yellow

I pretty much just included designs from all the elements in my outfit. This post taught me that I need to figure out another way to take ootd pics without my brother, since all of his turned out blurry. So became the weird leg-selfies. If you want to see my doll make-up you can check it out on my Instagram, @haleighbug333. I only took a picture of that right before washing it off sadly, so it's a little smeared. Expect more spirit filled nails from me this week!

Oh! I included a video of the misfit toys themselves in case you also had the song stuck in your head :)

Mark of Athena

Athens! The city where the Parthenon perches atop the Acropolis! Since I'm and art nerd you know I can't help put put some art history in here, so skip over this to the nail art if it doesn't interest you :). The city of Athens was named after the Greek goddess Athena, as many people know. Athena was the goddess of wisdom and military tactics. She was also an eternal maiden, meaning she remained a virgin. When she had children they were literally a brain child, they came out of her head (like how she came out of Zeus's head) as a gift to the men she admired. This earned her the name Athena Parthenos: Virgin Athena. The Athenians held modesty and virginity as important traits in a woman, so this is why they not only named their city after her (which in mythology was a scorn on Poseidon and is why Poseidon and Athena hate each other) but the Parthenon gets it's name from her too. It is a temple to her, after all. The Parthenon used to have a large marble and gold gilded statue of Athena, but it was stolen by the Romans and lost forever. In mythology it is called the Mark of Athena, and is considered when the power of the west shifted from the Greeks to the Romans. It is said that Athena in her Greek and Roman form (Minerva) would task her demigod children with finding her lost mark to regain her powers (the Romans had made her much less powerful and admired). They always ended up dying in some way or getting lost forever, because what's a Greek Tragedy without the tragedy? Another symbol for Athena was the owl, characterized for it's wisdom. So that is what I have painted on my nails.

This owl was actually inspired by the sweater made by Evelina Barry, one of my favorite Youtubers. You can check out her diy video here.

German Montana

Today we visit Berlin, another city that is high on my places-to-go list. I was inspired by the end-to-end graffiti on the Berlin Wall for my nail art look.

I tried my hand at making a graffitiesque style. I think I could definitely use some practice, the design in theory has a lot of potential.

I used:
Sally Hansen Brisk Blue
Clair's Black and White Nail Art Pens
Essie In the Cab-ana
Acrylic Paint

Swords and Shields

Anybody here watch Merlin? I just finished the series, and I'm missing it sooo much already. So it was easy to come up with a medieval look, based on all the shields that the knights use.

I used:
Sally Hansen Sliver Sweep
Sally Hansen Co-balt Blue

Charter

So I'm not really one to be a purse snob, shoes are more my thing. When I do carry a purse it's my hand-me-down Vuitton,  but that doesn't mean I cant appreciate a GORGEOUS piece of arm candy when I see one.

Introducing Charter, and beautiful structured purse from Rabeanco. You can see more drool worthy photos of Charter here (feel free to peruse through the other pretties too!), and read more about the brand here at Work Play Polishes giveaway!

I looove structured purses. I also love white, even though that's never a good idea for me. They allways get dirty so quickly :\.

I used:
NYC French Tip White
Sally Hansen Sliver Sweep
Klean Color Mocha

Line Games

So I'm waaay behind on the 7 Deadly Sins Challenge (thanks AP), but I still want to complete each prompt, even if I can't put it into the inlinkz. So here is part two of Lust!

This manicure called for "letting your body talk". Usually my body "talking" means it's lunch time, so I decided that it's meant to mean to just go with whatever strikes your fancy. I picked the purple since it's my best friend's favorite color and Cher Lloyd's song Oath was playing, the black striper was sitting on my desk so I just went with that, then I thought, "Glitter makes pretty much everything awesome," so that happened too. I rather like the result, I should do stuff randomly more often.

I used:
Sally Hansen Lacy Lilac
Clair's Black Striper
Stripe Rite Silver Glitter Striper

Oh yeah, how has your guy's Mothers Day gone? My Mom had to work today so we're celebrating tonight when she gets home. My brother and I made a wine bottle candle for her. We used the string/acetone/fire/ice water method to cut the bottle, and I double boiled old candles for the wax. The results were quite awesome, and we didn't maim ourselves/set anything on fire. Yeah science!

Coprolite Happens

Hey guys! So I ended up going almost another week without posting... Things have just gotten really hectic and the light change has thrown me off. It doesn't get dark till a little after seven now, whereas it used to get dark around five. Useually when the sun goes down I know it's time to get busy with stuff, but if the sun is still up it could be four for all I know. My inner clock is off, so maybe it's a good time to strart this Time Periods Challenge. (I just came up with that pun, don't roll your eyes I'm proud of that one.)

The first prompt is the Jurassic Era, so I decided to paint ammonite fossils on my nails. I know this fish isn't Jurassic (he's actually from the Eocene Age), but he's the coolest fossil in my collection.

   I used:
Sally Hansen Stone Creme
Clair's White Nail Art Pen

Here's the list of prompts for this challenge if anybody is curious. Don't get to used to these pretty, long nails. The two weeks of neglect has my nails in pretty bad, stubby shape. I figured I would post the pictures I had already taken (but didn't edit or upload) before getting to them. I should be back tomorrow, things are starting to stop being a jigsaw puzzle thankfully.

Black Pebbles on a Promenade

I finely bought some proper makeup sponges to do gradients, the ones I was using before left little sponge bits in the polish :P.

This manicure started out intended for something different, but I loved the blink?black gradient so much I wanted to do something different. I added the rhinepebbles to make it a but more edgily, but still girly. I think studs would have made it too Avril Lavigne. Next time I definitely will be putting a base color down so theres not so much naked nail peeking through, but I like it anyways with it.

I used:
NYC Pink Promenade
Sally Hansen Black Out
Claire's rhinepebbles

This is definitely a manicure I do NOT want to take off, but I have sooo many other fun designs I want to do too! At least I'll have it here to come back and look at :)

J'adore Dior

I had just about forgotten about this darn thing! I realized the other day that I had totally forgotten about my 31 Day Challenge! Here's Day 30, inspired by a tutorial.

The tutorial is from the lovely Sammy at The Nailasaurus and can be found here. These were based off a dress from Dior.

I used:
Sally Hansen Bold Buff
NYC Plaza Plumberry

I am currently in the midsts of making some changes to the blog, trying to make it a little bit more aesthetic :). *Puts hard hat on* Let's get to work!

Cut It Out!

I really love negative space manicures, they're different and interesting. I decided to try it out myself after seeing a post on Tumblr from Get Nailed.

I used tape to get the cut-out look. I think my favorite ones are my pointer and ring fingers, they seem to have turned out the best. I also really like the idea of closing off the negative space, it just adds a little bit more design to the whole look.

I used:
Midgi Light Blue nail art pen
Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac

What do you guys think? Will you be trying out the negative space trend?

Color Triangleing

Surprisingly auto-correct didn't catch me on the title, maybe triangleing is an actual word, or auto-correct has just given up hope on me. Today's post is such because I tried my hand at a color blocking look I recently saw on Tumblr, but they're triangles, not blocks.

I had just a tad bit of difficulty with this one because I'm impatient and kept applying tape to wet paint. I really love this look, the cream pink and glitter pink tie it together :)

I used:
Sally Hansen Black Out
NYC Sidewalkers
NYC Pink Promenade
Sally Hansen Rockstar Pink

Polish Days- Vintage

Hello lovelies! I have had a wonderful nail art filled day today. In Nevada we have proficiencies (basically tests you have to pass before they will let you graduate) today and since I passed all of mine last year as a sophomore (well I didn't pass the math one but I re-took it earlier in the year and passed it that time around) I got the day off, so I spent it creating lots of designs. Pretty good day if you ask me.

Since it is the first Tuesday of the month of course its Polish Days, this time the theme being vintage. Fun Fact: anything from 1960 and below is considered vintage, anytime after that its called retro. So you can't have vintage 80's groovy glasses or whatever it is my mom's generation wore. I wish she would have kept some of her stuff, she was rockin' the full on big bow in her hair and everything. Anyways I'm getting off topic, I decided to do my nails based on a tube of lipstick passed down to me from my great-grandma. I have no idea what brand it is, but I know it's old. It's pretty much used up, the color is red with a kinda pinky coral tone to it. I would post a picture but its kinda dusty and grimy.

I used:
Maybelline Bold Gold
Sally Hansen Black Out

I used a saran-wrap method I learned here. Except I didn't actually use saran-wrap, somehow we don't have any of that so I used the plastic wrappings Raising Cain's puts on their plastic utensils since we had that for dinner last night. I really like the result, It looks very similar to the lipstick. It feels good to be posting again too, tune in tomorrow for something totally new for my blog!

Valentines Socks

So normally I NEVER match my socks, life is honestly too short to match socks. Buuut ever since I was little my Grandma Jeanie has bought me wonderful holiday socks, on these days are the only days I will match my socks. So this year I decided to match my nails to them :)

I used:
Midgi Hot Pink Nail Art Pen
Sally Hansen Black Out
Revlon Red

I myself did not have a valentine this year, but my friend shared some of her chocolate bar with me so I felt loved anyways ^-^. I hope you had a great holiday, and if not, weeell all of that chocolate goes on sale tomorrow ;)

Non Timebo Mala

Ok so I couldn't just show up after being MIA for so long and just leave you with plain green nails, that would be pretty crappy of me. Day 30 (I think?) of this challenge is inspired by the supernatural, and so what better to do then use the show I got sucked into, Supernatural.

They have this gun that can basically kill anything (deamons, vampires, phoenixes, windegos, ect.), but it was only made with thirteen bullets and after that it's just another plain ole gun. I really like the design on it, all old-fashiony. So I recreated a snippet of the design for my nails.

This is what the gun looks like.

I used:
Sally Hansen Gone Grey
Clair's Black Nail Art Pen

The post title is from an engraving on the barrel, non timebo male. It means, "I fear no evil," in Latin. I'm seriously considering this for a tattoo. In regards to the show Supernatural, I do not recommend it if you value your social life and sleep, if you don't regard those two things as important, knock yourself out and enjoy Jensen's face.

Serendipity

Hello lovlies! Today I'm going to a friend's birthday party, which is being held at Serendipity 3. To my understanding its like a fancy ice cream parlor.

I do know for a fact though that we are getting this:

It's called the treasure chest, and it's every single ice cream/ dessert packed into an edible chocolate chest. I think I will have a sugar high for the rest of my life.

I decided to frostify my nails for the occasion. Starting from my thumb are the flavors; strawberry, chocolate with raspberry syrup and whip cream, vanilla with sprinkles, mint chocolate chip (my favorite!), and vanilla with chocolate syrup and a cherry on top.

I used:
Maybelline Green With Envy
Revlon Red
Revlon Posh
Clair's White, Pink, Blue, Black, and Green Nail Art Pens
NYC French Tip White
Petite's French Pink
Sally Hansen Stony Creme
Sally Hansen Lacy Lilac
Stripe Rite Yellow
Midgi Yellow and Blue Nail Art Pens

 Anybody else hungry now?

Scandalous Lace

New polish! New polish! :D The other day I convinced mom to let me get these two polishes while at Albertson's. I've had a lemming for a pale cream purple for a while, and the sparkly purple and black I just found very pretty :).

I used Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac and Revlon Scandalous for an accent nail. Both polishes applied smoothly, Lilac was opaque in two coats and so was Scandalous.

I'm pretty sure Revlon makes their bottles label-free for swatching purposes, its really great. So happy to have new polishes, might have to do it again soon... xD
