Why am I Such a Misfit?

I find that spirit week sometimes inspires some great, and odd nail art. Today was based on the Island of Misfit Toys, and the criteria was to just be mismatched. I took this quite to heart, and my dad this morning (not knowing it was spirit week) thought I had gone off my rocker!

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Pure Ice Platinum Basecoat
NYC Sidewalkers
Essie We're in it Together
Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac
Julep Clara
Julep Coco
Revlon Infamous
Stripe Rite Green, Pink, and Yellow

I pretty much just included designs from all the elements in my outfit. This post taught me that I need to figure out another way to take ootd pics without my brother, since all of his turned out blurry. So became the weird leg-selfies. If you want to see my doll make-up you can check it out on my Instagram, @haleighbug333. I only took a picture of that right before washing it off sadly, so it's a little smeared. Expect more spirit filled nails from me this week!

Oh! I included a video of the misfit toys themselves in case you also had the song stuck in your head :)

Greetings Earthlings

*in which Haleigh still avoids doing galaxy nails*
Space! One of my favorite things. Space absolutely fascinates me. If being an astronaut didn't require so much math I totally would have wanted to be one. Weightlessness? Getting to see Earth from an arial view? Yes please! I even have an app from howmanypeopleareinspacerightnow.com on my phone. Space is wicked cool.

I am a firm believer of us not being alone. The universe is so spacious (hehe space pun), I'm sure that theres plenty of planets in the Goldilocks Zone of their sun. They may not be small and green, but hopefully they would still come in peace! I used new nail art brushes from Born Pretty that I am in love with, they're sooo much better than the ones I bought from Amazon. Great for small details and letter writing.

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Revlon Posh
Revlon First Class
Revlon Red
NYC Sidewalkers
NYC French Tip White
Julep  Rebel

I'm not ashamed to admit that while I was wearing these I occasionally made spaceship sounds while texting. It looked like a spaceship flying over my keyboard and I am an inner five year old.

Mark of Athena

Athens! The city where the Parthenon perches atop the Acropolis! Since I'm and art nerd you know I can't help put put some art history in here, so skip over this to the nail art if it doesn't interest you :). The city of Athens was named after the Greek goddess Athena, as many people know. Athena was the goddess of wisdom and military tactics. She was also an eternal maiden, meaning she remained a virgin. When she had children they were literally a brain child, they came out of her head (like how she came out of Zeus's head) as a gift to the men she admired. This earned her the name Athena Parthenos: Virgin Athena. The Athenians held modesty and virginity as important traits in a woman, so this is why they not only named their city after her (which in mythology was a scorn on Poseidon and is why Poseidon and Athena hate each other) but the Parthenon gets it's name from her too. It is a temple to her, after all. The Parthenon used to have a large marble and gold gilded statue of Athena, but it was stolen by the Romans and lost forever. In mythology it is called the Mark of Athena, and is considered when the power of the west shifted from the Greeks to the Romans. It is said that Athena in her Greek and Roman form (Minerva) would task her demigod children with finding her lost mark to regain her powers (the Romans had made her much less powerful and admired). They always ended up dying in some way or getting lost forever, because what's a Greek Tragedy without the tragedy? Another symbol for Athena was the owl, characterized for it's wisdom. So that is what I have painted on my nails.

This owl was actually inspired by the sweater made by Evelina Barry, one of my favorite Youtubers. You can check out her diy video here.

Colossal

So my brother went to my grandparent's cabin (same place I'm going next week)... and took my camera with him. Which kinda makes it hard to run a nail art blog. But now he's back, and I yet again have access to a camera. So it's time to get caught up with things!

I used a stamping plate from Wistonia to get the colosseum nails, I'lll be posting more on those later. I chose to keep it really simple, with just black and gold colors. I also like having it traveling from one nail to the next, I'll have to do that with more stamps.

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Maybelline Bold Gold

You Are My Tuxedo, and I'm Your Bow-tie

These nails were made for Nailed It's 3D nail art contest, and inspired by Cher Lloyd's song Oath.

This song always reminds me of my best friend (or bist fed as we call each other) Laura. I've known her since 7th grade so thaaat's five years now! She's been with me through my wild endeavors and I've made it through (most) of her crazy ideas unscathed. I dunno if it's common practice to dedicate nail art to somebody, but these were definitely done with her in mind!

 I used:
Pure Ice Magic Base Coat
Stripe Rite Neon Pink
Clair's White and Black Nail Art Pens
Born Pretty Rhinepebbles
Clair's Rhinepebbles
Maybelline Onyx Rush

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!

I recently read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and absolutely loved it, I can't wait to read the next one. So I knew that I definitely wanted to do nails based on it's sic-fi amazingness.

Arthur Dent perfectly embodies To Boldly Go... even if he didn't really have a choice in the matter. At least he has a towel. The look I was going for was stars with 42 and the Hitchhiker's logo, but it looks more like polkadots. Oh well.

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat
Blick Acrylic Paint

Swords and Shields

Anybody here watch Merlin? I just finished the series, and I'm missing it sooo much already. So it was easy to come up with a medieval look, based on all the shields that the knights use.

I used:
Sally Hansen Sliver Sweep
Sally Hansen Co-balt Blue
Maybelline Bold
NYC Chelsea
Sally Hansen Pronto Purple

If She Doesn't Scare You, No Evil Thing Will

For the sake of getting caught up, I'm breaking my usual one-post-a-day limit.

This was my second attempt at a sugar spun mani, my first looked like an axe-murder  scene. The colors I choose reminded me of Cruella Deville, hence the post title :)

I used:
NYC French Tip White
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Revlon Red

I really like the sugar spun technique, it's interesting. I think next time though I'll have to mix up more "sugar" for my last to nails so they don't look so faltering.

R-O-C-K Me Again

Hey guys! I'm having a fantastic day off today, today was a staff development day, so teachers go to school and students don't. Hooray! I've had Pandora blasting on the Cher Lloyd station for awhile, and a One Direction song came up that I can't stop listening to now. So I decided to do some nail art for it.

I decided that black and pink are about as rock as I get. Is blue hair rock? It's not a mohawk so probably not. There are reasons why I listen to country.

I used:
Ellagee I've Got a Crush on You
Maybelline Onyx Rush

I'm new to Ellagee polish, but so far my impression is that it's great! The formula handles very well and you don't have to fish around for glitter bits. I've Got a Crush on You is a mixture of square and hexagon glitters of varying sizes, which are pink and silver holographic. It dries slightly matte so I added one coat of Revlon Fast Dry topper to shine it up

Rock on! Or spidey senses?

Also, today is the last day for voting for the Rite Aide Nail Extravaganza! I would really appreciate your vote, every one counts! You can vote by clicking that image in the doodley-doo to the right there. Thanks!

Roman Royalty

Maybe one day I'll catch up to all of my challenges... Well, here's a start.

The colors gold and purple distinctly stand out to me when I think of Romans, I believe a lot of their statesmen wore the colors. I decided to go with a simple ruffian instead of any fancy nail art today.

I used:
Maybelline Bold Gold
NYC Plaza Plumberry

Hope you guys like it! I have a lot of polishing to do now!

"By the Sea, Land, and Air we prosper."

This post is super rushed and super fast, I woke up late and realized I had nothing to post and no inlinks set up! So this manicure was done really hurried, I didn't want you guy's waiting any longer for the inlinks to be available.

I used:
Clair's Blue Nail Art Pen
NYC French Tip White
Revlon Posh
Maybelline Bold Gold

I was inspired by the cool design of their flag for this mani, my representation is kind of abstract though. Vancouver is actually the only city I've been to on the list, I drove through it on a Canada/Alaska road trip with my grandparents. I will be going to New York this summer though!

Again super sorry for the lateness! I'll have next week's on a scheduled posting so it's sure not to be late.

NYC Lexington Yellow
NYC Chelsea
Clair's Black Nail Art Pen
Maybelline Onyx Rush (I've broken up with Sally Hansen's Black Out)

I can't wait to see your guy's manicures! If there are any problems with using the inlinks let me know, this is my first time using it so there may be some bugs. And don't forget to enter the giveaway here!

Polish Days- Vintage

Hello lovelies! I have had a wonderful nail art filled day today. In Nevada we have proficiencies (basically tests you have to pass before they will let you graduate) today and since I passed all of mine last year as a sophomore (well I didn't pass the math one but I re-took it earlier in the year and passed it that time around) I got the day off, so I spent it creating lots of designs. Pretty good day if you ask me.

Since it is the first Tuesday of the month of course its Polish Days, this time the theme being vintage. Fun Fact: anything from 1960 and below is considered vintage, anytime after that its called retro. So you can't have vintage 80's groovy glasses or whatever it is my mom's generation wore. I wish she would have kept some of her stuff, she was rockin' the full on big bow in her hair and everything. Anyways I'm getting off topic, I decided to do my nails based on a tube of lipstick passed down to me from my great-grandma. I have no idea what brand it is, but I know it's old. It's pretty much used up, the color is red with a kinda pinky coral tone to it. I would post a picture but its kinda dusty and grimy.

I used:
Maybelline Bold Gold
Sally Hansen Black Out

I used a saran-wrap method I learned here. Except I didn't actually use saran-wrap, somehow we don't have any of that so I used the plastic wrappings Raising Cain's puts on their plastic utensils since we had that for dinner last night. I really like the result, It looks very similar to the lipstick. It feels good to be posting again too, tune in tomorrow for something totally new for my blog!

Serendipity

Hello lovlies! Today I'm going to a friend's birthday party, which is being held at Serendipity 3. To my understanding its like a fancy ice cream parlor.

I do know for a fact though that we are getting this:

It's called the treasure chest, and it's every single ice cream/ dessert packed into an edible chocolate chest. I think I will have a sugar high for the rest of my life.

I decided to frostify my nails for the occasion. Starting from my thumb are the flavors; strawberry, chocolate with raspberry syrup and whip cream, vanilla with sprinkles, mint chocolate chip (my favorite!), and vanilla with chocolate syrup and a cherry on top.

I used:
Maybelline Green With Envy
Revlon Red
Revlon Posh
Clair's White, Pink, Blue, Black, and Green Nail Art Pens
NYC French Tip White
Petite's French Pink
Sally Hansen Stony Creme
Sally Hansen Lacy Lilac
Stripe Rite Yellow
Midgi Yellow and Blue Nail Art Pens

49ers!

Superbowl Sunday is here! Time to eat lots of chips, yell at the tv, and enjoy hilarious commercials. If you knew that I'm a Giants fan, you might've assumed I'd be rooting for the 49ers, seeing as they're both from 'Frisco.

I used:
NYC Chelsea
Maybelline Bold Gold
Clair's White and Black Nail Art Pens

So far the 49ers have won every Superbowl that they've been to, so here's hoping that tradition continues!

Night Light

Today I'm very excited to share Born Pretty's glow polish in color #2.

Over all nails I have two coats of #2 with no topcoat, with the exception of my index finger which has one coat of OPI Insti Dry.

On my ring finger #2 is layered over two coats of Maybelline Green With Envy with the added top coat, middle finger is the same but with no top coat, ring finger has two coats of NYC French Tip White under #2, and my pinky just has #2.

#2 glows best over the white and the top coat seems to have no effect on the glow.

The glow has to be "charged up" under a light before it will really glow, wearing it around won't do it. The glow lasts for about half an hour after exposure to light.

This is all over Green With Envy. My final thought is that this is a decent enough glow polish. Application was easy and drying time wasn't long. Removal isn't hard, the polish is a bit gritty and leaves a strange feel to your nails even with a basecoat. I just wish it didn't need to have direct light to get the effect of glowing :\.
