Why am I Such a Misfit?

I find that spirit week sometimes inspires some great, and odd nail art. Today was based on the Island of Misfit Toys, and the criteria was to just be mismatched. I took this quite to heart, and my dad this morning (not knowing it was spirit week) thought I had gone off my rocker!

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Pure Ice Platinum Basecoat
NYC Sidewalkers
Essie We're in it Together
Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac
Julep Clara
Julep Coco
Revlon Infamous
Stripe Rite Green, Pink, and Yellow

I pretty much just included designs from all the elements in my outfit. This post taught me that I need to figure out another way to take ootd pics without my brother, since all of his turned out blurry. So became the weird leg-selfies. If you want to see my doll make-up you can check it out on my Instagram, @haleighbug333. I only took a picture of that right before washing it off sadly, so it's a little smeared. Expect more spirit filled nails from me this week!

Oh! I included a video of the misfit toys themselves in case you also had the song stuck in your head :)

Christmas Coco

So originally I only intended to take the first month of my senior year away from blogging to really focus… but then it turned into a whole semester. The longer I stayed away the harder I found to get back into it. I wanted to come back when my year bloggiversary was, but I had to work on my school's premier gala. Then about halfway through November I figured I would just come back after my ORLA was done, this huge assignment that all the seniors have to do where you basically write fourteen essays on one book. It was no bueno. So now as of today it's been four months since my last post, and high time I get back into it. I need more than just school and Netflix to stay sane lol. So today while I was deciding what I should paint, I was inspired by my mug of hot coco. I've got a sore throat and it really helps. I started playing around with the colors and patterns on it and really liked this one.

The trees on my cup have these little starbursts patterns, so I did this kinda loose interpretation of them. I think after this I'm going to end up making another cup.

I used:
Revlon Posh
Pure Ice Platinum White

I hope you are all keeping warm this winter and have a hot beverage of your own!

y=-(sin(x^(1.7/6)+4)+(1/x))+10

Whee moar challenges! I swear I'll finish them all. Someday. Possibly.

This new challenge is I <3 Nerds, which I'm totally psyched for because I am a huge nerd. Today's topic isn't my favorite though. Math xP. My absolute worst subject. I guess it at least makes some pretty cute nail art!

I used:
Pure Ice Magic Platinum Base Coat
Clair's Black, Pink, and Blue Nail Art Pens

Anybody know the origins of this post's title? WITHOUT Googleing it?

I'm Looking for a Blonde in a Union Jack.

A specific one, mind, I din't just wake up this morning with a craving.

My friend Jessica is currently back home in England, not in London though. She's from Nottingham. I asked her to bring me back the crown jewels, but since she's not willing to commit theft I settled for some chocolate Penguins instead.

I used:
Pure Ice Platinum White Magic Basecoat

You Are My Tuxedo, and I'm Your Bow-tie

These nails were made for Nailed It's 3D nail art contest, and inspired by Cher Lloyd's song Oath.

This song always reminds me of my best friend (or bist fed as we call each other) Laura. I've known her since 7th grade so thaaat's five years now! She's been with me through my wild endeavors and I've made it through (most) of her crazy ideas unscathed. I dunno if it's common practice to dedicate nail art to somebody, but these were definitely done with her in mind!

 I used:
Pure Ice Magic Base Coat
Stripe Rite Neon Pink
Clair's White and Black Nail Art Pens
Born Pretty Rhinepebbles
Clair's Rhinepebbles
Maybelline Onyx Rush

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!

I recently read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and absolutely loved it, I can't wait to read the next one. So I knew that I definitely wanted to do nails based on it's sic-fi amazingness.

Arthur Dent perfectly embodies To Boldly Go... even if he didn't really have a choice in the matter. At least he has a towel. The look I was going for was stars with 42 and the Hitchhiker's logo, but it looks more like polkadots. Oh well.

I used:
Maybelline Onyx Rush
Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat
Blick Acrylic Paint

Wanna Kiss?

The title is meant to be read with the same intonation as Finnick Odair used when he asked Katniss, "Wanna sugar cube?" I was pigging out on Hershey Kisses (because you can't just stop at one) and I looked at the wrapper and thought, huh, I bet I can put that on my nails. So here you go.

I found a new site to do my watermark with and I am sooo happy with it. Before I was using Pixlr, but it was kinda restrained on what I could do with text. I couldn't tilt it, or make in a bit transparent, couldn't have that much text either. I am now using a simple version of Photoshop provided by Photoshop itself, check it out here if you like.

I used Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat for a base and affixed the Kisses wrappers to my nail with OPI Rapi Dry Top Coat. I used tiny scissors (I have no idea what their real use is) the cut off the excess and then sealed it all in with another layer of top coat.

I had a lot of fun with this, I think I will be putting more candy wrappers on my nails in the future :)

Money Smart Nail Art- Cork Stamp

Hey guys! Guess what?! This is my first ever tutorial! It's for Moneysupermarket.com's Money Smart Nail Art contest, basically to create a money saving nail art look and post how you did it, so let's get right into it shall we? I'm excited!

So first I want to warn you that this will be very picture heavy, I'm a very visual person so my tutorials will tend to be this way. I know there are TONS of ways to save money with nail art, using bobby pins or sewing pins as dotting tools, old liquid eyeliner brushes as striping brushes, ect. I wanted to come up with something a little bit more for a unique look, and I just love when you can take something you're going to throw away anyways and revamp/repurpose it. So I came up with the idea to use old wine bottle corks as nail stampers, kinda a twist on what you did when you were in kindergarten to wrap presents for your mom.

First of all you're going to need corks of course. I took these out of my parent's cork holder in the kitchen. Try to pick ones that have flat bottoms, and don't use those weird foam corks. If you're not a drinker or underage (like me) without access to wine corks don't worry, you can get sparkling cider or something of the like, it's super yummy.

Start by drawing out what you want your stamp to look like, and take into account that a cork is more than likely bigger than your nail.

I would recommend using an exacto-blade set like this to carve your pattern out, but if you don't have one of those around the house try using a regular exacto-blade before you bust out the steak knife. Please be careful, cutting off your finger is going to be counter-producive.

I decided to just stick with the star design, I thought it was the most interesting. Make sure the grooves in your design are very deep so you get a clear stamp.

Take a minute to get yourself a soda because being all crafty like Martha Stewart is hard.

Paint on your basecoat, I painted my nails with two coats of Pure Ice's Platinum Magic Basecoat.

Next you will need acrylic paint, you can find it pretty much anywhere really cheap, I'm using Blick's generic brand. I highly recommend using acrylic instead of nail polish, it worked much better in all of my trials and it will make clean up a whole lot easier.

Spread your paint evenly on your pallet so you get good coverage on your stamp.

Press your stamp lightly into the paint, you might need to press it onto your pallet once or twice before applying it to the nail so you get any excess paint off. You don't want it to be all gloopy.

Stamp the first layer of paint on, you will need to roll the stamp around on your nail a bit to get full coverage.

Second layer of paint.

Now apply a generous amount of topcoat once the acrylic has dried, since acrylic is water soluble it will wash away the first time you take a shower. I used OPI Rapid Dry.  Wait a decent amount of time before proceeding to the next step, really let the topcoat dry. Maybe get dinner, I chose a burger from Sonic.

Wash off the paint in warm water with soap. Use a washrag to gently rub it off, you don't wan to scrub and damage your cuticles. Protip: don't use a washrag you're keen on, acrylic stains fabrics forever. Seriously that stain will still be there after the end of humanity.

You're all done! After some thought this look reminds me of when I would play with the ketchup and mustard on my plate as a kid instead of eating my food. You can use lots of different colors and as many layers as you like, also experiment with the amount of paint for different outcomes. I hope you liked my first tutorial, let me know what you thought in the comments. Too many pictures? Too little detail? I'd love to improve! See you guys tomorrow :)

Inclusion

So this is a half swatch half nail art post. If you've seen my Instagram your know that I got a ring I've been wanting for quite some time from my parents for Christmas. This ring is so gorgeous and I love it so much I just had to dedicate some nail art to it.

I am in l-o-v-e with The Living daylights. My brother must be physic to know how bad I've wanted this polish.

I saw this ring I don't know how long ago, I think it was over the summer. That sounds about right. The funny thing is the day before Christmas I was at the mall getting some last minute shopping done and Santa photos, and I dragged Dad into Neimen Marcus to see it, but It was gone. Now I know why xD.

The ring is from Louis Vuitton's Inclusion collection.

Caillou du Rhin

Hullo Earthlings! How was everybody's "last" day on Earth? XD Just in case the Mayan's actually knew what they were talking about (but somehow were unable to predict the Spanish), here's a blog post to keep you company while the planet splits in two. Yay!

So, to explain the odd title. As I was sitting down to add the rhinestones, I wondered what the entomology of rhinestones was, like every normal human does. So I asked Mr. Google and decided to share with you what I learned.
Rhine stones were originally called caillou du Rhin by the French, which translates to Rhine Pebble. Yes, Rhine, as in the river. There were small rock crystals found in the river and were used to imitate diamonds, and after a while Rhine Pebble just became rhinestone. So there is your history lesson for today folks :)

I used:
Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat
Pure Ice DJ Spinner
and Clair's Rhine Pebbles

I'll have another post ready for ya if the world and the nail art within it still exists after tomorrow ;)

Pure Ice Vinyl Remix Swatches

Let's get one thing straight, I do not like swatch posts. I think they're boring, albeit a bit helpful at times. I originally had no intentions of doing a swatch post (unless specifically asked to do so) on this blog. But this polish is "MAGIC" guys. So heres a swatch post. For scientific reasons.

The polish in question was Pure Ice's Vinyl Magic Polish. Which is pretty much just a tinted crackle polish after further inspection, and doesn't do the super cool effects on the poster that led me to an impulse buy. Its still pretty cool though.

Here is three coats of the "magic" base coat.

I wondered what made it so magical. Turns out it's just white polish, a very nice white polish, but nothing magical. Here it is shown on the right, with NYC French Tip White on the left.

It took me three tries to get this effect, the trick is to have the white COMPLEATLY dry and apply a very very thin coat of the crackle polish.

Final thoughts: It's definetly a novel polish, it only cost me $6. I think if I played around with the application of the crackle I would have more fun with it. I might buy more of the colors just to get the cooler designs, but they come with another bottle of white and I don't really want four bottles of magic white :/ All in all I like it and would recommend it, I just wish the crackles were sold separately.
